Event Name: Flotsam River Circus

Date & Time: Tuesday, September 2nd from 6:30 - 8:30pm

Location: Tina Chorvas Waterfront Park

Additional Information: Flotsam is a troupe of musicians, circus artists, and puppeteers traveling on a handmade raft, giving free performances in waterfront towns along the way.

The show is family-friendly but intended for audiences of all ages. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and come early for a good spot!

A suggested contribution of $10–$25 per person. Cash is welcome, or you can Venmo @rivercircus. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and all donations are tax deductible.

There is additional parking available at Waterside Spa. Parking in the area is limited, so if possible, please carpool, bus, bike, kayak, or teleport. If you are considering arriving by boat, please note that our show is much better viewed from shore — and we ask that no boats position themselves behind us during the performance.

This is just one stop on their 2025 Erie Canal and Hudson River tour. In conjunction with the Bicentennial of the Erie Canal, they’ll be traveling over 600 miles and performing in dozens of towns, all the way to New York City!

    Additional Information:

Time is the framework for my drawing and painting practice. In working with the figure, I seek to capture both a moment and the internal landscape of the sitter. Daily drawing sessions function as a meditation—repetition that sharpens vision, timing, and the choices I make with color, line, positive and negative space, and other principles of art-making.

Between looking and seeing, there is a fleeting gap: a split second where an image imprints itself on my mind before I translate it to canvas. This gap, described in Buddhism as a place of stillness and equilibrium, is central to my work. It is a space beyond words or thought—just presence.

Roses are also a recurring motif in my practice. For me, they serve as a metaphor for the human spirit. Through the use of multiple roses and mirrors, I explore light, reflection, and metaphor, creating spaces that attempt to hold and extend a moment.

Ultimately, my work is an inquiry into memory, perception, and the impossibility of holding on. To capture the fleeting is like trying to grasp smoke before it disappears into a black hole.

    The Sketchbook Gallery

Day of the Week, Date: Sat, Sep 7

Name of Event: Artist Talk: Melanie Delgado

    Time of Event: 1pm

Special Info: “I’m in the Studio Tonight Because of You” is Delgado’s attempt to take the viewer through her process by breaking down the lines and marks that land on the paper or canvas from beginning to end.

The first mark tends to be towards the right, middle side of the page. Woody sticks, graphite crayons, pigment sticks, stiff brushes and palette knives are her tools of choice.

The woody stick can make really thin lines that ignite each painting’s energy. When water is added it will wash the color out and make light marks that can be seen in small areas under the piles of oil paint. It’s been said that Melanie is a ‘painter’s painter’. When you stand in front of her work, especially the larger oil paintings on canvas you can feel the battle. She is committed to her practice and has a deep love for her students and their work as well.
